Purpose/Goals

To promote and protect the welfare of all persons with mental retardation.
To distribute information that promotes a better understanding of the special needs of all persons with mental retardation.
To support the continued operation of all Texas State Supported Living Centers for persons with mental retardation, group homes, and other residential settings with frequent quality monitoring regardless of setting.
To maintain an awareness of current and revised Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services [DADS] policies, procedures and rules that pertain to the care and treatment of all persons with mental retardation.
To be aware of state and national legislation which affects the rights of persons with mental retardation.
To keep members informed about all things that affect the care and welfare of their mentally retarded family member
To ensure that the parent/guardian's legal right of placement choice for their mentally retarded family member is respected and honored.
To be involved as individuals and as an organization in maintaining the highest standards of quality care for persons with mental retardation in all residential settings.
To support and encourage families to obtain guardianship for their family member who is mentally retarded.
